The Islamic Centre (KIC) at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has organised its annual Ramadan Iftar and Dinner to bring together members of the Muslim community on campus and strengthen bonds of unity and fellowship.

Chairman of the KIC Event and Planning Committee, Dr. Faizal Adams, said the programme was organised to create a platform for members of the Muslim community on campus to interact and celebrate the end of the fasting period together.
“It is a social gathering that brings the Muslim community on campus together to mark the end of the Ramadan fasting period and to build unity among the Muslim ummah on campus,” he said.

According to him, the event also provides an opportunity for members to reflect on the blessings associated with the holy month while strengthening relationships within the community.
“The essence is to foster unity and mutual respect among members, show gratitude and reflect on the good tidings of the holy month,” he added.

Vice President of the KNUST Muslim community, Prof. Abdul Samed Muntaka, described Iftar as an important Islamic tradition observed during the month of Ramadan that encourages generosity and inclusiveness.
He noted that the Iftar gathering was designed to provide a relaxed environment for members to interact beyond the usual Friday prayers.
“We see each other on Fridays, but this is a special one because it is a special month where you are supposed to show love to your neighbours, your friends and your family,” he said.
Prof. Muntaka expressed satisfaction with the success of the event, describing both the organisation and participation as impressive.
“Today has been great. You can see that almost everybody here was having fun,” he stated.
He further explained that the Muslim community on campus is open to all Muslims within the university environment, noting that the congregation includes workers, senior members, senior staff, junior staff and nearby residents who worship at the centre.
“The only criterion is for you to be a Muslim and be around campus,” he said.
